MAC Address Lookup

Find the vendor and manufacturer of a device by its MAC address.

Enter a MAC address to find its vendor

About MAC Address Lookup

MAC address lookup allows you to identify the manufacturer or vendor of a network device by analyzing its MAC address. This tool uses the IEEE OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier) database to provide accurate vendor information.

What is an OUI?

An OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier) is a 24-bit number that uniquely identifies a vendor, manufacturer, or other organization. It forms the first half of a MAC address:

  • First 3 octets - OUI assigned by IEEE to identify the manufacturer
  • Last 3 octets - Unique identifier assigned by the manufacturer

Example: In MAC address 20:37:06:12:34:56

  • OUI: 20:37:06 (Cisco Systems, Inc)
  • Device ID: 12:34:56 (Assigned by Cisco)
How to Use This Tool
  1. Enter MAC Address - Type or paste a MAC address in any format
  2. Automatic Lookup - The tool will automatically search for vendor information
  3. View Results - See the manufacturer name, address, and country
  4. Copy Information - Click "Copy vendor info" to copy all details

Supported MAC address formats:

  • Colon notation: 20:37:06:12:34:56
  • Dash notation: 20-37-06-12-34-56
  • Dot notation: 2037.0612.3456
  • No separators: 203706123456
Use Cases for MAC Address Lookup

MAC address lookup is useful for various purposes:

Network Administration:

About the IEEE OUI Database

This tool uses the official IEEE Registration Authority database:

Database Coverage:

  • Over 40,000+ registered OUI assignments
  • Includes major manufacturers like Cisco, Intel, Apple, etc.
  • Regularly updated with new registrations
  • Covers both current and legacy OUI assignments

Information Provided:

  • Organization name (manufacturer/vendor)
  • Complete business address
  • Country of registration
  • Official IEEE registration details

Limitations:

  • Only covers the first 3 octets (OUI portion)
  • Some private/virtual MAC addresses may not be found
  • Locally administered addresses are not in the database
  • Very new OUI assignments may take time to appear
Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I find my device's vendor?

Some MAC addresses use locally administered addresses or private ranges that are not registered in the IEEE OUI database. Virtual network interfaces and some embedded devices may also use unregistered MAC addresses.

Is the lookup accurate?

Yes, the lookup is based on the official IEEE Registration Authority database, which is the authoritative source for OUI assignments. However, devices can be configured with custom MAC addresses.

Can I lookup partial MAC addresses?

Yes, you only need the first 6 characters (3 octets) to identify the vendor. The tool will work with partial MAC addresses as long as the OUI portion is provided.

How often is the database updated?

The IEEE OUI database is updated regularly as new organizations register for OUI assignments. Our tool uses the latest available data from the IEEE Registration Authority.

What if I see "Unknown" for a well-known device?

This could happen if the device uses a locally administered MAC address, a virtual interface, or if the manufacturer hasn't registered the OUI with IEEE. Some companies also use OUIs registered under different names.
