Editorial and calculator review policy

Our standard for calculator pages

Each calculator should explain what it estimates, identify important assumptions, use consistent units, handle invalid inputs, and link to the material used to verify its methodology. Results must not be presented as guarantees.

Source selection

For health and financial topics, we prioritize sources in this order:

1. Government agencies, regulators, standards bodies, and official registries.
2. Professional medical or scientific organizations and peer-reviewed original research.
3. Official product documentation when a calculator describes a proprietary program.
4. High-quality secondary explanations only when a primary source is unavailable.

Sources are linked directly on the relevant calculator page so readers can verify the assumptions and context.

Technical methodology review

Jack Tao, CyberChef founder and a full-stack developer with more than 10 years of software engineering experience, reviews formula implementation, units, rounding, edge cases, source alignment, and browser behavior. The review date and methodology version are displayed on covered calculator pages.

Medical and financial review

A technical review is not the same as review by a licensed clinician, registered dietitian, CPA, tax professional, attorney, or financial adviser. CyberChef does not claim independent subject-matter review unless the reviewer’s real name, relevant credentials, review scope, and profile are displayed on the page.

Health and financial results are educational estimates. They must include decision-specific limitations and direct readers to an appropriately qualified professional when an individual decision could affect health, treatment, taxes, borrowing, investing, or legal rights.

Updates and corrections

Time-sensitive inputs—such as statutory contribution limits—are checked against their authoritative source when a page is reviewed. Material methodology changes increment the displayed version and update the review date. Minor copy or styling changes do not imply a new expert review.

If a formula, source, limit, or explanation appears wrong or outdated, please contact us with the calculator URL and supporting evidence. We investigate corrections and update the page when warranted.

Privacy

Calculator inputs are processed locally in the browser and are not uploaded to CyberChef for calculation. See the privacy policy for site analytics and other website-level data practices.
